Polished Concrete Flooring in Pittsburg CA - a floor with the stone and shine you chose
Bare slab looking dull, stained or patchy? We grind and polish the concrete itself into a smooth, hard floor with the shine you want.

What is polished concrete, and will it work on your floor?
Polished concrete flooring is your existing slab, ground and polished in passes until some of the stone in the mix shows at the surface. In Pittsburg, CA we do it in homes, garages and shops for people who want the concrete itself to be the finished floor, with no coating on top.
Most people who call about polishing have a bare slab they're tired of looking at, or an old coating that's failing and they don't want another one. What moves the price is how deep we grind to reach the stone you want, the shine level, the size of the room and anything we have to strip off first, such as epoxy, paint or carpet glue. The schedule turns on those same things, plus how flat the slab is and how many passes it takes, and you get your own figure in the written estimate after I've seen the floor.
How do you know your concrete floor is ready for polishing?
These are the things homeowners and shop owners usually notice before they call us. Each one tells me something about the slab and whether polishing makes sense for it.
A garage or shop slab that leaves gray dust on your shoes usually has a soft, worn top layer.
An epoxy or paint coating peeling in patches usually means it has to come off, and polishing is one option after.
Pulled-up carpet or tile that leaves bare concrete and glue lines is a common starting point for polishing.
Tire marks and oil stains soaking into bare concrete show the surface is open and taking up every spill.
Fine surface cracks and rough patches on a dull floor tell me the top needs grinding before anything else.
A floor that never looks clean, even right after mopping, usually has a worn, porous surface holding grime.
If a coating is lifting or the slab keeps shedding dust, call before you put anything new down, so I can see the floor the way it is now.
What happens after you call about polished concrete in Pittsburg?
We're based in Pittsburg and work in many cities around it, including Antioch, Concord, Brentwood and Walnut Creek. Here's how a polishing job runs from your first call to the final walk-through.
Call or send a message
Call (925) 318-8041 or use the form and tell us which room it is and what's on the floor now, whether that's bare concrete, an old coating or carpet glue. We set a time for me to come out.
I look at your slab
I come out myself, check for old coatings, moisture, cracks and how flat the slab is, and we talk about how you use the room. You get a written estimate built on how much stone you want showing and how much shine, so you know exactly what you're paying for.
Our crew preps and polishes
Our own installers do the work, and I'm on the job for the prep because that's where most floors go right or wrong. After that I check in through each round of grinding and polishing.
We walk the floor together
When the last pass is done, I walk the finished floor with you in the light the room actually gets. If something doesn't look right to you, we talk it through right there.

Grinding, polishing and sealing choices for your slab
Polishing starts with coarse diamonds that cut the top of the slab down to the stone you picked, then finer diamonds that close up those scratches and build the shine. Along the way we usually apply a densifier, a liquid hardener that soaks into the concrete, so the surface will take a polish. Any old epoxy, paint or glue has to come off first, because soft coatings gum up the diamonds.
The biggest choice is how much stone shows, from a light grind that keeps the smooth top with a little speckle to a deep grind that opens up larger stone. We quote by how much stone shows and how much shine you want, not by a list of grits, and I show you samples first, since every slab polishes a little differently. If you want color, stained concrete flooring adds it, and if your slab can't give you the stone you're after, terrazzo flooring can.
I'm careful with sealers. Many stain or gloss sealers can hide scratches left by sloppy grinding and push the shine up, so the polishing trade's own guidance is to test the floor before any sealer goes on. I'd rather the shine come from the concrete, and the work is backed by our satisfaction guarantee.
Polished concrete questions we hear in Pittsburg
How much does polished concrete flooring cost in Pittsburg, CA?
Polishing concrete across the US usually starts at about $8 to $9 per square foot, and that's a national starting figure, not a Pittsburg rate or our price. Where your floor lands depends on how much stone you want showing, the shine level and whether an old coating or glue has to come off first. I'll give you a written figure once I've seen the slab.
How much stone and shine will my polished concrete floor show?
You choose how much of the stone in the mix shows and how much sheen the floor has, but your slab sets the limits. How much stone there is to expose, and how big it is, comes from how the concrete was mixed, poured and finished, and how flat the floor is when we grind it matters too. That's why the samples come before you decide.
How do I compare polished concrete quotes in Pittsburg?
Ask every contractor to write the quote by class and sheen level, the defined measures the Concrete Polishing Council sets nationally for how much stone shows and how glossy the floor is. Quotes written as a list of steps and grits leave too much open to opinion and to price changes later, so you can't line them up side by side. Ours are written by stone and shine for that reason.
Is a glossy polished concrete floor slippery?
In testing the council reported, polished floors still exceeded the required slip resistance, even at very high gloss. Grip changed with the shine level but not with how much stone showed, so if traction worries you, sheen is the choice to talk through with me.
What is the best way to control dust when grinding concrete indoors?
Cal/OSHA's silica guidance for construction calls for one of three things: a vacuum or local exhaust system on the tools, wet-cutting, or closing off the area where the dust starts. Ask any crew which one they'll use in your house, because the state says the fine silica dust from grinding can cause silicosis, an incurable lung disease, along with lung cancer and kidney disease. The state's construction silica rule covers renovation and repair of any building in California, so it applies to a floor job in your home. Dust can also hang around after the grinding stops and get kicked up during cleanup, so I'll tell you at the estimate how we handle both.
Do I need a licensed contractor to polish my concrete floor in California?
Yes, unless the job fits California's exemption for unlicensed minor work, which now covers jobs under $1,000, up from $500, and only when the work needs no permit and the person doing it employs no one. The state licensing board has a concrete class for contractors who form, pour, place, finish and install flat concrete work. We're licensed and fully insured, and we check with the city or county office for your address before work starts, pulling the permit and handling the paperwork if the job needs one.
Other concrete floors worth a look
Stained Concrete Flooring
If your slab looks too plain or patchy to polish on its own, staining adds color to the concrete itself and can pair with a light polish.
Terrazzo Flooring
When your slab can't give you the stone you're after, terrazzo sets chips of marble or glass in a new layer and grinds them smooth.
